Introducing a new way to log in to your members' area
In January 2024, we released information in Voice about upcoming changes to the way you access your RSC services. We’re excited to now introduce a single way for you to access different parts of the RSC across all our websites. This means you will be able to interact with any RSC website simply and consistently.
Currently, the RSC websites have multiple access systems, but this leads to duplication of effort and information, and inconsistency and complexity for those who use more than one RSC website.
To begin with, the streamlined login process is being introduced on your members’ area and throughout the next year, you will begin to have further access to other parts of the RSC.
What have we changed?
The information and content will remain the same, but the login processes are becoming consistent across all RSC websites.
The change to a standardised login approach is happening in a controlled and safe manner, which means the RSC websites won’t all be switched to a new login system simultaneously, since this creates unnecessary risk. Instead, different parts of the RSC will be integrated at different times and, until they do, will keep working as normal.
Initially, this change will only happen for the members’ area, and members who access other RSC sites can continue doing so by using their membership number. For example, the Journals website and Chemistry World website will keep using the current login approach until they transition.
What do I need to do now?
You will receive an email from us in early October with guidance on what you need to do with your membership account. However, if you have not yet received an email or haven’t had the chance to follow the guidance yet, we’ve included guidance below for you.
Simply complete a one-off password reset so you can use your email address to access your members’ area. To complete the process:
- Go to members.rsc.org and enter the email address you use for your membership. Our system will recognise you’re already a member and send you an email.
- Open this email and click on the unique link to reset your password. Submit a new password and your account will be verified.
- After this step, you’ll return to the members’ area. As other parts of the RSC join our single access, you’ll be able to benefit from this.
This change is about improving our members’ overall experience with the RSC and enabling future developments of interest. We want to support connections between our different RSC websites, and this is a key part of that goal.
What comes next?
We would like to thank everyone for taking these important steps during October. Amanda Spencer, our director of technology, shares how this helps us improve your experience.
“Thank you for working with us and taking the time to reset your password. We appreciate your support and patience as we modernise our digital systems. We have a vision for an improved, simplified digital experience for all the members of our community. Creating a new way to log in using your RSC account will allow you to access any part of the RSC simply and consistently. It’s a vital part of our digital strategy, which enables us to help the chemical science community make the world a better place.”
