Porous Materials Group

Connect with colleagues in your field and become involved in your scientific community

Purpose and scope

The Porous Materials Group (PMG) is one of the RSC's many Interest Groups. The Interest Groups are member driven groups which exist to benefit RSC members, and the wider chemical science community, in line with the RSC's strategy and charter.

Aims

The Porous Materials Group was formed in late 2018, and aims to bring together scientists from all career stages involved in research into porous materials, from metal-organic frameworks and zeolites to porous polymers and organic molecules. The group aims to foster links between academic research and commercial utility in this burgeoning area of science, and enable the development of an active community based around shared interests and knowledge.

Activities

The group currently organises the annual UK Porous Materials Conference. They also manage the Barrer Award, awarded triennially to recognise meritorious recent pure or applied work in the field of porous materials. The award is open for nominations in 2026 and the winner will be chosen by representatives from the RSC Porous Materials Group, the British Zeolite Association (BZA) and the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI).

As the group develops we hope to provide more opportunities for members to meet, network, and develop their careers in porous materials science.

Committee

The committee members listed are responsible for designing programmes that will advance chemistry in the subject area, helping the RSC to meet its aims, engaging with and supporting our members.

We are always keen to welcome new members to the committee. When vacancies arise, we circulate a “Call for Committee”, where an email is sent to all members of the group to make them aware of new opportunities to join the committee.

It is important to have diverse representation on committees to consider the needs of our membership. All RSC members are welcome to stand for committee positions when vacancies are advertised.
