Our Interest Groups are member driven groups which exist to benefit RSC members, and the wider chemical science community, in line with the RSC's strategy and charter.
Microfluidics and lab-on-a-chip technologies enable the precise manipulation of minuscule fluid volumes within complex microchannel networks; the Microfluidics Group bridges research groups and industry partners to encourage collaboration and showcase advancements in the field in applications as diverse as analytical chemistry, environmental monitoring, clinical diagnostics, drug discovery, single-cell analysis, and organ-on-chip.
The Microfluidics Group aims to achieve these goals by organising meetings and conferences, which provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of ideas in areas of interest to members.
The Microfluidics Group committee organise the UK Microfluidics Conference. The 2025 meeting was held in Leeds on Wednesday 18 June and hosted over 100 delegates from 31 institutes. The 2026 meeting will be in Manchester on Friday 19 June.

Each RSC Interest Group submits an annual activity report outlining how they have supported their community through events, bursaries, prizes, and more. The Microfluidics Group was launched in 2026; their first annual report will be available from the Networks Team in 2027.
RSC members can join this interest group by updating their details in the “Manage my interest groups” section of the online RSC membership area.
The committee members listed are responsible for designing programmes that will advance chemistry in the subject area, helping the RSC to meet its aims, engaging with and supporting our members.
We are always keen to welcome new members to the committee. When vacancies arise, we circulate a “Call for Committee”, where an email is sent to all members of the group to make them aware of new opportunities to join the committee.
It is important to have diverse representation on committees to consider the needs of our membership. All RSC members are welcome to stand for committee positions when vacancies are advertised.
