Electrochemistry Group

Connect with colleagues in your field and become involved in your scientific community

Purpose and scope

The Electrochemistry Group is one of our many Interest Groups. The Interest Groups are member driven groups which exist to benefit our members, and the wider chemical science community, in line with our strategy and charter. The Electrochemistry Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry represents and co-ordinates the interests of a very wide range of scientists involved with all aspects of electrochemistry.

Aims

  • To organise events
  • To promote the involvement of postgraduate students in regional, national and international conferences
  • To inform Group members and provide a mechanism for discussion

Benefits of joining this group

  • Advance notice of relevant events, meetings and conferences and courses
  • Reduced registration fees for meetings
  • Networking opportunities
  • General info of various topics associated with the interest group and related RSC Subject Communities
  • Keeps members up-to-date with current developments within the sector and promotes Continuous Professional Development

Activities

  • The primary mission of the Electrochemistry Group is to provide a central focus for the development of basic, strategic and applied electrochemistry.
  • The group plays a central role in the organisation of the main UK national electrochemistry conference every year, the Electrochem Conference Series, which, since the first Electrochem '94 conference in Edinburgh, has established itself as a central forum for discussion and debate.
  • The Electrochemistry Group also financially supports regional electrochemistry meetings. The idea of such meetings is to allow graduates to give lectures on their PhD work whilst incurring no more costs than travel to and from a local venue.

Committee

The committee members listed are responsible for designing programmes that will advance chemistry in the subject area, helping the RSC to meet its aims, engaging with and supporting our members.

We are always keen to welcome new members to the committee. When vacancies arise, we circulate a “Call for Committee”, where an email is sent to all members of the group to make them aware of new opportunities to join the committee.

It is important to have diverse representation on committees to consider the needs of our membership. All RSC members are welcome to stand for committee positions when vacancies are advertised.

Electrochemistry Group Student Bursary Scheme

The bursary scheme is currently closed.

The Student Bursary scheme provides financial support to promising postgraduate students to attend a major electrochemistry conference abroad. This includes students based in UK or Ireland intending to travel to a major electrochemistry conference abroad and students based abroad wishing to attend a conference in the UK. This year we shall also be considering support for students to attend a major on-line electrochemistry conference.

The Bursary Scheme is open to all postgraduate student members of the RSC's Electrochemistry Group undertaking research in electrochemistry.

Up to six awards may be made (of up to £300 for an in-person event or up to £200 for an on-line event). The successful applicants are expected to submit a short report for the Electrochemistry Newsletter. The student bursary scheme can only fund up to one student per research group per calendar year.

Applications shall consist of:

  • the application form
  • the abstract submitted to the conference organisers

Applications should be submitted via the submission portal. The portal will request authentication of the application by the student's supervisor.
